Grossreuth, Nuremberg

von Storm Janse van Rensburg

The construction of a subway station in Grossreuth, Nuremberg creates an opportunity for the city and suburb to develop a new neighborhood center. The design submitted for the competition envisions a development that links existing buildings in the vicinity with new structures, create places for recreation and multifaceted everyday activities, and to enhance it with quality: An integrated environment that encourages residents to claim it as their own, and to identify with it. In short, the intention is to create a home for the citizens of Grossreuth. To achieve this, the design is based on proven frameworks – the town square envisioned as a central marketplace with a fountain, surrounded by trees and restaurants, as well as a variety of leisure facilities and living accomodation. Furthermore, pedestrian access ways radially connect throughout the development with the subway station.
